Such a fond memory of Lena, who welcomed me with her big smile and rich laughter to my first ever paid teaching job in Bradford in 1975. She understood my nerves and gave me lots of encouragement and made me feel valued as the newest part timer in the team. I can hear her lovely Devonian voice now, helping me to pronounce the names of our Pakistani students and making sure I completed my pay claim correctly. I am sad to know she has left us, but know that she leaves a beautiful legacy.
